What’s Behind That Healthy Glow

A healthy glow is used to describe the appearance that seems to radiate from the largest organ of the body: the skin. As an organ, the skin takes a lot of abuse to protect us from the outside world while also serving an important role in keeping the inside world healthy.

In regard to skin health, it is important to look at the role it plays, and how the skin is influenced by three critical factors of physical health: The environment, genetics, and diet.

The skin comes into contact with everything in the outside world as well as by what you put into your body. Chemical exposure can lead to rashes, pimples and other symptoms of poor skin health. The effects of some chemical exposures seem obvious to us. Exposure to poison ivy, chlorine or a strong acid would not be surprising to many people but prolonged exposure to food preservatives, vapor from bug or weed killer or even chemicals found in soaps may produce the same results as cells of the skin are continually bombarded by these toxins. Why some people may quickly show the effects of such exposure and not others can be influenced by the other two factors.

There isn’t much you can do about your genetics. Some people are more sensitive to certain chemicals and some may also have allergies, autoimmune disorders and even abnormal physical structures making up the skin. Being aware of such conditions allows you to take steps to avoid exposure to the elements that cause irritation and also to take extra steps to support good skin health by focusing on the third critical factor of physical health

Diet it is something you have significant control over. Through a combination of planned food intake and appropriate use of food-based nutritional supplements, it is possible to improve skin health by providing the necessary building blocks to support the various structures and functions of the cells. If you find you’re sensitive or allergic to a particular food, study what nutrients it provides to ensure that you do not create gaps in your diet when you eliminate it from your diet. Appropriate use of food-based dietary supplements further helps fill in those gaps and makes it easier to increase the intake of specific nutrients in case something from the other two factors is leaving you with the need for greater nutritional support than can be found through diet alone.

The skin is an incredible organ and the cells from which it is composed are in a constant state of regeneration. The more you are aware of its needs and the more you focus on meeting those needs, the more you’ll be rewarded by your own “healthy glow.”

How Important Is Your Health

Does the title sound like a silly question to you? Everyone knows that health is extremely important. Good health allows you to enjoy life- to live it to the fullest.

Nutrition is essential to good health. There is so much “junk food” available now. It is so easy to grab a high calorie snack which is totally lacking in nutrition. It is just as easy to run to the fast food place for dinner instead of cooking a nutritious meal. Without proper fuel, an automobile will not give you good mileage and may eventually stop running. The same is true with the body. Keep fresh fruits and vegetables around for snacks. Take the time to fix healthy meals. Don’t run out of good fuel.

Another major contributor to good health is exercise. You cannot just sit and be healthy. Sorry you couch potatoes, but you need to move. Get that blood pumping. Get those muscle moving. There are many enjoyable ways to exercise. Get outside and take a walk. Go out in the backyard and play with the kids. Find a sport you enjoy (tennis is my choice). If everyone is watching television, get down on the floor and exercise. Even sitting on the couch you can do leg lifts, some light weights with your arms, or just tense and relax muscles. You will find that when you exercise, you will have more energy and feel better.

The other contributor to good health is a healthy, active mind. It needs to work out just like the body does. Learn something new. That will work out your mind. I just turned 60 and I am now learning HTML. Talk about a foreign language! It has been a challenge and I still have a long way to go, but I feel a sense of accomplishment for learning as much as I have.

For the last 7 years I dreamed of starting my own business. I have used my mind and researched the “at home” industry. A few months ago I started a business. That is a challenge also. What I have found out is that all you have to do is make up your mind and then use your mind and do it. I think most of us dream of being our own boss. Think about it.

I have always tried to eat the right foods and exercise. Now that I am giving my mind a top-notch work-out I feel like I am young again. All 3 elements are in sync.

LIVE… ENJOY… DREAM… GO AFTER THAT DREAM…

One Outlaw Personal Trainer Coming Your Way

The holidays are here and every one has seemingly decided to bail out on their weight loss and fitness routines. Come January the gyms will be packed with those people who decided to make weight loss their New Year’s Resolution for 2006. It happens every single year.

Personal trainers count on it. In fact we are already gearing up for the onslaught of the fat loss wars. We are honing our skills and perfecting our payment plans. We are looking at supplements to sell to you and new gadgets to promote. That is every personal trainer except for me!

I am gearing up for something a bit different. I am gearing up to help my clients survive the holiday weight gain and continue their fat loss goals. I am not busy researching the latest diet or buying stock for the latest celebrity trainer book. I am working with the same old basic tools and concepts that have produced results for as long as I can remember.

Below are 4 simple steps you can start using right now or in January. They are not cool or hip or trendy. They are safe, effective and results-focused. They do two things- give me happy clients and give my clients the body they always wanted.

Step 1- Strength Training

Every pound of muscle burns 35-50 calories per day. Adding lean muscle mass is the best way to jump start your metabolism, fight osteoporosis and sustain fat reduction. We want to have lean and toned muscles.

Tool 2- Cardio

Cardio strengthens our heart and lungs. Anything that gets your heart pumping will do: walking, jogging, running, dancing, swimming, biking, or house cleaning. Cardio should be done at varying intensity and time levels. Cardio works your most important muscle- your heart!

Tool 3- Nutrition

Nutrition is often the hardest part of fat loss. We simply forgot how to eat well in our culture. We need to eat protein, carbs, and fat to sustain our way of life. Cut one of the three out and imbalances will occur. Eat 5-6 small meals every 3-4 hours.

Tool 4- Rest

Rest is not a luxury. It is a necessity. We should eat well every day and we should workout 5-6 times per week. The leftover 1-2 days are meant for rest. Our muscles need time to rebuild and repair themselves.

These 4 steps are the cornerstone of any fantastic fat loss program. So while all the other trainers are trying to sell you some fancy workout routine that is guaranteed to make you lose 15 pounds in 4 minutes, remember these 4 steps. They will a better job, they will be safer and they will cost loads less!
